An Arctic sailing adventure

At the close of the Svalbard season, Ylva will sail back to the Norwegian mainland for some rest, maintenance and to get ready for the northern lights and whales of the coastal waters of Troms and Finnmark. We offer 6 guests the opportunity to join our crew.

Unique opportunities along the way

Rather than head out to the ocean from Isfjord, we plan on making this trip a special experience by first following the Spitsbergen coast and anchoring at the most beautiful locations we can find. Some options are Belsund and Recherche fjord, Hornsund with the majestic Hornsundtind and the polish research station there before the journey continues past South Cape.

A pit stop at Bjørnøya (Bear Island) is often prohibited by weather, but given some luck we can spend a night under the bird cliffs as its inhabitants head south for the winter like us.

Finally, the last part of the tour will follow the Norwegian alpine coastline towards Tromsø, our destination.

Do you have what it takes?

The Barents Sea is a tract of ocean that demands respect from those who ventures to cross it. The cold water from the shallow eastern seas mix with the Atlantic warmer water. The autumn weather is also unpredictable. This is a proper sailing experience that will test your nerve, and let you be part of a sailing crew at sea.

Life on board Ylva

Watchkeeping

The captain will organize the crew into watch teams. You will alternate through the days 24 hours to be in on duty for navigation and sail management, led by one of our experienced captain and first officer.

Comfort for everyone

All cabins have private bathrooms and heads (one share with the guide cabin). Warm duvets, blankets, towels and toiletry is provided.

 Time on shore

Even though this tour is mostly about sailing, we will get a chance to stretch our legs on some of the remote anchorages along the way.

Your turn at the wheel

Ylva is the only boat of her model series that has been fitted with a wheelhouse, something that gives great comfort in the demanding conditions of the Arctic.
