Ski & Sail Lyngen - 6 days
Ski & Sail in Lyngen is a six-day journey through one of Norway’s most striking alpine coastal landscapes. Steep, snow-covered peaks rise straight from the fjords, and the boat becomes both our means of travel and our home along the way.
Over six days (five nights), we move through the Lyngen region without a fixed route. Each day is planned by the guide based on weather, snow and local conditions, allowing the trip to unfold naturally and adapt to what the landscape offers.
Ski touring is central to the experience. We go ashore where it makes sense, clip into our skis close to sea level and make our way upward through classic Lyngen terrain — open slopes, alpine faces and ridgelines with wide views across fjords and islands. The descents are often long and flowing, frequently bringing us all the way back to the shoreline, where the boat is waiting.
Between tours, life on board sets the rhythm. Mornings begin with breakfast, evenings return to warmth, comfort and shared meals. All meals are included and prepared on board, enjoyed together as the light changes outside and the fjord settles for the night.
After skiing, there is time to unwind. Gear is dried, the pace slows, and when conditions allow, the wood-fired hot tub on deck is heated. Sitting in warm water under the open sky, surrounded by snow-covered mountains and still water, is a welcome way to loosen tired legs and shoulders after a full day on skis.
At night, we anchor in sheltered bays, close to the mountains we plan to explore. The boat allows us to wake up in new places, stay close to the terrain and move quietly through the landscape as conditions change.
This trip is for those who value a complete Ski & Sail experience — good ski days, sound decisions and a capable setup that supports both adventure and comfort. It’s efficient without being rushed, flexible without being loose, and built around making the most of each day as it comes.
Six days where skiing, sailing and daily life come together as one continuous journey, shaped by nature and shared moments.

Each day a new adventure
As Ylva sails between anchoridges and harbors, new peaks and new possibilities emerge.
Individual arrival in Tromsø, cabin allocation, safety briefing, equipment check, sailing to the first destination, shared dinner, and review of tour plans for the following day.
Our main focus is ski touring, followed by relaxing in the on-deck jacuzzi, sailing between destinations, and planning the next day’s tour. Locations are chosen based on wind direction and strength. For lunch, we prepare a traditional Norwegian packed meal with bread and a selection of toppings to bring along on the tour.
We head out for a slightly shorter ski tour before sailing back to Tromsø, with time to reflect on and wrap up the trip along the way. Guests may choose to fly home in the evening or stay overnight (free of charge) on board Ylva until Sunday.
Difficulty level
Technical difficulty level: moderate
We primarily undertake ski tours in terrain of moderate difficulty, with some sections reaching slopes of up to 35 degrees. Participants are expected to ski confidently in open, unprepared terrain under varying snow and weather conditions. You should have solid ski technique and feel comfortable making turns off-piste; refreshing these skills by skiing outside groomed runs in the weeks leading up to the trip is recommended.
We expect you to have prior experience with ski touring and to be familiar with your touring skis or splitboard, including efficient use of climbing skins, uphill travel, and executing kick turns. In addition, you must be proficient in the use of avalanche safety equipment (transceiver, shovel, and probe), so that the review we conduct on the first day will mainly serve as a refresher.
Physical difficulty level: moderate
You have a good level of basic fitness and sufficient endurance to complete ski tours with a total movement time of up to 7 hours (excluding breaks), and with up to 1,200 vertical meters of both ascent and descent.
Sailing
No experience required.
Nice to know
Here are some common questions from our guests.
We provide a full board to all our guests on Ylva, and it is our goal that your experience with us is one of warmth and comfort.
We serve 3 delicious meals each day; Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Usually, lunch is taken on the slopes, and we provide options to pack and bring your own from the boat in cooperation with the guide. There is always snacks and fruits available should you feel the need for more energy. Coffee, tea, juice and milk is complementary. Beer and wine is for sale on board.
Your bunk is equipped with comfortable linen and a warm down duvet. There are towels and soaps for your use in your bathroom.
Sailing in the Arctic can be cold and windy in winter. However, Ylva is a large boat, and only rarely will there be much sea spray over deck. Your skiing gear - goretex trousers and jackets, with proper woolen layers as well as mid-layers underneath, will usually be sufficient.
However, Ylva has an indoor steering house, so going on deck to work the sails is only done during manouvers and sail changes, and assisting the crew in these phases is a voluntary experience.
Tromsø Airport (TOS) has direct routes from may European hubs. There a several flights from Oslo (OSL), Norways capital, every day.
When you arrive, taking the bus or a taxi from the airport to the downtown central harbor takes only 20 minutes.
Please respect the check-in time, as the crew needs to ready the boat from the last tour. However, should you arrive early we can arrange to store your luggage while you tour Tromsø.
You will receive more detailed information after you book your tour.
Yes, each cabin has a private shower and toilet, except one of the forward cabins (nr. 2) that shares these with the guides. Towels and toiletries are provided.
We provide protected storage for all skis in large crates on deck. Ski boots are kept in a locker behind the steering house, to save space inside. All your equipment is safe from sea spray and other sources of dirt.
Indeed there is!
We fill it up with sea water and heat it with a wood-burning stove. Our goal is to fire it up at least a couple of times each trip. The stove can comfortably hold six people, but a couple more can fit between good friends.
On a boat, we strongly recommend that you pack in soft bags that can be rolled up and stowed away. A suitcase would pose a problem to store in your cabin.
As you are a skiier, you are probably well aware of how to dress in winter conditions. Just make sure you keep in mind that the wind in Norway can be strong, adding to the other challenges of low temperatures and humidity.
